SECURE Act For Financial Professionals – SECURE-ing Lifetime Income

The SECURE Act introduces widespread changes at both the employer and individual level relative to retirement plans and savings for retirement. It both expands provisions to encourage small employers to adopt retirement benefit plans, expands coverage and then pays for this via changes at the individual level.

Nearly every Financial Professional has clients with large IRA or 401k accounts; often those accounts make up a significant portion of the client’s net worth and may be more than clients need to live on. Many Financial Professionals may also work with Employers who have or are looking to adopt a retirement plan benefit. As such, a strong understanding of the SECURE Act is critical for many Financial Professionals.

This will help a financial professional’s skills in that they will better understand of the SECURE Act and various approaches available to specific, common, client situations. They will understand the background for each approach, how each might further (or hinder) a clients overall wealth transfer objectives and what risks a client will be taking on with each approach.
